This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to design, create and save a basic markup language document, using a text editor.

It applies to individuals who work in an assistant capacity to create web pages.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1.2 Select the appropriate markup language, based on organisational standards

1.3 Review the document structure

2. Create the document structure

2.1 Create and assign, the basic elements of the document

2.2 Mark-up sections of the document to depict the structure

3. Validate the documents

3.1 Validate the markup of the language document, against the requirements

3.2 Validate the markup of the language document, in different browsers

Evidence of the ability to:

review document requirements, and select the appropriate language

create and save a markup language document

validate the document

use a markup language, without the automated generation of code.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

identify and describe, markup languages and their associated standards

list the features and limitations of a range of available browsers

explain web accessibility.

Gather evidence to demonstrate consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances must be typical of those experienced in the website technologies field of work, and include access to:

the organisational style guide or policy

the document specification

a text editor

a range of browsers

the internet, to validate the markup.

Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.

Assessment Tasks

When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
